By looking back on the history, we learn to appreciate the treatment options that are available today. They reflect the hard work of many before us, who used what was available to them at the time, overcoming difficulties, and providing the best possible care for patients. It is also hoped that individuals are encouraged to continue searching for new technology and cures to improve medical science.
I hope this historical account has been of interest to you. I have certainly been fascinated by this journey back through the years. I leave you with a quote from Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr, "Still the past helps explain where we are today and how we got there."
